Get a Breast Lift in San Diego and La Jolla

Our breast lift La Jolla, or mastopexy, is an operation to raise sagging breasts. Women sometimes request it if they are happy enough with the size of their breasts, but feel that they have lost some of their shape and firmness. This usually occurs because of loss of the skin’s elasticity, the curse of gravity over time and other factors.

Breast Lift in La Jolla and Childbirth

Pregnancy and breast feeding can have unpredictable effects on the size and shape of breasts after a woman has had a San Diego breast lift. The nipples and milk ducts are preserved and the nervous supply to the breast is carefully handled during surgery to maintain function and sensitivity. Some women, particularly if they are planning to delay having a family, decide to have the San Diego breast lift and address any issues that crop up with their breasts after the childbearing and breastfeeding years are complete.

The Breast Lift Procedure

One of the most common approaches to a breast lift San Diego involves making three incisions: one around the areola, a vertical incision from the 6 o’clock position of the areola to the crease of the breast and a third incision beneath the breast, following the natural curve of the breast. Once the surgeon has removed the excess breast skin, the areola and the nipple are lifted into a higher position. Skin from above the areola is brought down beneath it to provide firmness and shape.

Preparing for a Breast Lift

Perhaps surprisingly, this procedure is usually performed on an outpatient basis. For this reason, you will need to have a friend or relative on hand to drive you home and stay with you for the night after your surgery. If you smoke, your doctor will probably ask you to stop smoking well in advance of your procedure. If you are taking aspirin or other anti-inflammatory medication, these will need to be discontinued as well or they may cause increased bleeding. Your surgeon will advise you if you need to make other preparations.

Recovering from a Breast Lift

The first day after surgery, it should be okay to get up for a brief periods of time to visit the toilet or to make a sandwich. After a few days, you will be able to move around more comfortably but will need to avoid bending or lifting; these activities may increase swelling or cause bleeding. Your drains will be removed within a few days and your dressing may be changed. You may be encouraged to wear a support bra for a few weeks. Stitches will probably be removed over a three-week period, starting a week after your procedure.

Depending on your job, you may be able to return to work after a week.
